Another annual event held in Kingsport, TN, the Eastman Road Race is
held in early September. This one
features youth events, a 10 K, a 3 K and a 10
K handcycle race.
This is easily one of the most inexpensive events you will find. Last year's fee got you entered in the event, a shirt, socks and a pasta supper the
night before. The different events are timed so that the congestion is
manageable but the delay between events is minimal. The 10K ends 1 hour and 20 minutes after it starts because the 3K is up next. This means that walkers cannot participate, the 10K run is just that, it's a run.The size of participants for me about perfect, not so many that you get clogged and not so small that
you are alone. The course is listed as flat but has a few climbs in the second half that can catch you by surprise. There is also one section that has some quick turns and also goes through some uneven pavement. As with other events in Kingsport, the people along the way are
great with crowds at the start/finish line and intersections and even standing
in their yards cheering. Eastman makes sure that you are taken care of
at the end with snacks, water and drinks and there is excellent parking close by because the start and finish lines are located beside the Eastman Chemical Company office complex.
